Chat Rooms and the Cops Ah, the joys of public access computers. Apparently last week at one of our branches a patron observed a middle aged man in a chat room portraying himself as a 16 year old boy. So...she called the police. Yep the called the fucking police. Because, you know, no one ever misrepresents themself on the internet. So anyway...one of the branch people couldn't find the Extension Services librarian (and I use that term loosely, as he pretty much only plays with blueprints) and ended up calling here to talk to the assistant director, who picked up the phone in children's to talk to her, meaning that I got to overhear this juicy bit of news. Apparently at the next all staff meeting we need a refresher on the Library Bill of Rights, because said branch employee didn't seem to get why she was not allowed to give the police any information from his record without a warrant. Apart from that, there has been little of interest around here lately. I am trying to put the finishing touches on Summer Reading planning. But uh...yeah. That's about it. Until the next chapter... |
